With everyone leading busy life styles it is often easy to overlook car maintenance and by doing this you are often failing to get the best gas mileage. When was the last tune up performed on your vehicle. It may have been a few years since your last tune up and your engine may not be running as smooth as it once did you may have also noticed a decrease in gas mileage if this is the case you may want to schedule a tune up. A complete tuneup with an engine diagnostic test is performed.

Spark plugs and air filters are usually replaced and spark plug wires if found defective will be replaced. At this point gasoline and airflow adjustments are performed. If your diesel engine has a defective glow plug or your gasoline engine has a blocked or dirty fuel injectors this can further deteriorate engine performance. A weak battery my be discovered or a faulty alternator that may be drawing more current or putting a load on your charging system further impacting your gas mileage. A complete tuneup can usually result in getting more miles per gallon. It would not be unusual for a vehicle worse case that has a bad oxygen sensor to get better gas mileage of 40%. If your looking to do it yourself on a few improvements properly inflated tires can improve gas mileage a few percent.

Replacing a dirty air filter can increase gas mileage up to ten percent.
